Background
Bytes Software Design has been a
pioneer in Internet development since the early days of the
Internet. We were one of the first organisations (1996) to
create an intranet for purposes of knowledge management. This
resulted in presentations on Intranet Learning Systems at
conferences both locally and in Europe. Our first transaction
processing Internet based system was developed in 1999 and
is successfully running in production on a number of sites.

Skills
Bytes Software Design's Internet Development
skills are largely based around Microsoft technologies. We have
more than 20 developers who are fully skilled in web development.
Front-end development skills include: ASP, Javascript, HTML
and XML. Back-end skills include: Visual Basic, Delphi, C and
some Java skill. We also have several other programming language
skills including many of the mainframe technologies. This makes
us ideally placed to provide services for web-enabling legacy
systems. Our database skills include SQL Server, Oracle, DB2,
Informix and IDMS. We are also currently pioneering .Net skills
and currently have a product development in progress utilising
C# and the .Net framework. |

Experience
Bytes Software Design's large project Internet
based development experience includes:
- An application for
employers to submit pension fund contributions deducted
from their payrolls to the pension fund administrators.
This product enables employer and employee self-service
and saves administrators money by ensuring data is pre-validated
before it is submitted the administrators' back-end systems.
This product is installed in customer sites in South Africa
and the UK.
- An application to
enable the UK Teachers Benefit Statements to be available
online. This application saves the customer £80,000
per annum in printing costs.
- An application developed
for one of South Africa's largest bank that enables employers
and employees to pay beneficiaries via their payroll / salary.
- A retirement fund
administration application that is implemented or in the
process of being implemented at various customer sites.
- A gateway application
that facilitates the smooth transfer of data and premiums
between Administrators and Payroll Offices, through Switching
Agents. The data updates submitted by Payroll Offices are
transmitted to the Policy Administration System or any other
external system for processing.
- An application developed
for one of South Africa’s largest Assurers that offer
their brokers and clients easier access to business tender
facilities.

Future
In addition to the .Net developments mentioned above, Bytes
Software Design is growing more extensive Java skills as some
of our customers' migrate towards a Websphere environment.
Where possible our strategy is to multiskill our developers
in both front-end (Internet) and Back-end (Application Server
& Database) technologies.
